Hanging leg raises, lying leg thrusts, and stability ball crunches are all a better alternative. They provide the require flat ab exercises while also working more areas of your body, there by helping to burn more calories and fat.

You see there's more to getting a super set of abs then just doing crunches. You need to be at 10% body fat or less in order to even see your abs. So it makes sense that a flat abs exercise doesn't just need to be an ab exercise but all a full body exercise that will work your legs, abs, back etc.
