Atkins Diet Review
The Atkins
diet claims to be the low carb answer to losing weight
fast and changing your lifestyle to maintain that goal
weight? Does it work? Is it Safe? Can you lose weight fast
and keep it off following Dr. Robert Atkins low-carb diet
created over 30 years ago?
The concept behind the Atkins diet is you cut out
carbohydrates (or most of them) and replace them with high
protein foods such as fish, red meat, and chicken. There are
four stages to the Atkins diet and varying from dramatic to
more stable weight loss. You will begin to lose weight quite
quickly during the induction phase, but will also have to
dramatically cut out your carbohydrates.

4 stages of the Atkins Diet
Induction: this is initial weight loss mode
you're required to cut your carbs down to only 20 g per day.
These could be from salads, and vegetables that are low in
starch. This is a big cut considering most of us in North
America consumer 200-250g per day. This stage lasts for 14 days
or more, as it's the stage where most people lose the most
weight on the Atkins diet some men and women extend it a bit
longer then 2 weeks.
Weight loss has been seen in the 5-6 lbs per week during the
induction stage of the atkins diet.
Ongoing Weight Loss Phase: Here you consume
an additional 25g of carbs per day and will likely see 1-3
pounds of weight loss each week.
Pre-maintenance: You begin this stage of
the Atkins diet when you're about 10 pounds away from your
target weight. For the next several weeks you will continue to
add 10 more grams of carbohydrates back into your diet so long
as you're still losing those last few pounds. This is also in
an effort to determine your happy medium level for not losing
or gaining weight carb consumption.
Maintenance Phase: This is the final stage
where you've found your stabilized carbohydrate amount, and you
can maintain your current healthy weight following a modified
version of the Atkins diet you first started.
While a lot of people think of the Atkins diet as just red
meat, it's more about protein. There are lots of alternatives
besides steak. Fish and poultry are both great alternatives to
limit the amount of red meat you're consuming on the Atkins
diet.
There are lots of healthy recipes and meal options to choose
from on the Atkins diet. An easy way to get started and gain
access to lots of content, recipes, and shopping lists is to

Verdict on the Atkins Diet
Atkins might be a tough program to follow for life, but the
theory works. It's been proven by hundreds of thousands of men
and women in North America and Europe. If you can find a
healthy balance of recipes and meal options besides red meat
then the Atkins diet is a very satisfying program to
follow.
You're still allowed to eat many of the meals people love,
and lose weight. While there is a considerable amount of
monitoring and work to be done going through and learning each
stage it works well.
The Atkins diet works, but remember to still get your
vegetables to stay healthy. I suggest enrolling in the eDiets
